WHAT IS A SUPPLEMENTARY SCHOOL?
Supplementary schools offer educational support and activities for
children and young people outside of the regular school curriculum, with
a focus on culture, language and history of their country of origin.
The children who participate are given the unique opportunity to learn about their family heritage and culture along with other youths in a fun and friendly atmosphere. This allows them to maintain strong bonds with relatives who may still live in their country of origin. It also gives them an opportunity to make new friends.
Children who converse freely in their mother tongue will have the opportunity to take GCSE, AS and A2 Levels. Those children and young people who attend supplementary schools are also shown to be more confident and integrate better into regular school life in mainstream schools.
